Year 2 have really enjoyed their Design and Technology lessons this term. Their project brief was to design a fire engine with four moving wheels, made entirely from sustainable materials.
We began by exploring how fire engine designs have evolved over time, from the 16th century right through to the present day. Inspired by what we learned, we then designed our own fire engines and decided which extra features to include, such as ladders, hosepipes and sirens.
Next came the making stage: the children constructed their engines, complete with chassis, axles and even personalised number plates!
Finally, we reached the most important step—evaluation. We evaluated our own designs and also gave thoughtful feedback on our peers’ creations
