This week the children have been immersed in learning about the Coronation through rich, hands-on experiences. We explored who the King is, why his role is significant, and how things have changed now that we have a King instead of a Queen. The children enjoyed sharing what they knew, asking thoughtful questions and talking about past and present events, supporting their growing understanding of the world around them.
To bring the learning to life, the children helped to assemble traditional scones. They carefully spread jam and cream, practising the use of one-handed tools and building confidence in making independent choices. This experience sparked lots of meaningful conversations and exposed the children to new vocabulary, while also encouraging turn-taking and cooperative problem-solving.
We also discovered that Cinderella was feeling very sad, and the children decided to write cards to cheer her up. This gave them a purposeful and motivating reason to write, as they used their phonics knowledge, early mark-making and drawing skills to create heartfelt messages.
