This week in Science, Year 1 became taste detectives and took part in a hands on tasting investigation. We’ve been learning all about our taste buds and how they send signals to our brains to help us recognise different flavours. To put our learning to the test, we went on a tasting adventure! First, we tried a slice of lemon and quickly discovered what sour really means. There were lots of sour faces and giggles around the room! Then came the kale, which helped us explore the bitter taste, some of us were brave and had more than one bite! Finally, we finished with the best part of the lesson, a delicious Jammie Dodger to show what sweet tastes like. There were lots of smiles and happy taste buds by the end! We had so much fun exploring how our bodies help us experience the world through taste. Year 1 can now confidently tell you using scientific vocabulary how our tongues and brains work together to help us enjoy all sorts of flavours!
