What a fantastic week it’s been for Year 2 at STMP, as our reading for pleasure journey continues to grow; it’s never been more enjoyable!

We were lucky enough to visit the British Library, where we were introduced to this year’s Summer Reading Challenge; a great way to keep our reading habits going strong over the holidays.

We were also thrilled to meet the Welsh Children’s Laureate, Alex Wharton, who wowed us with his lively and engaging poetry performances. With a hip-hop beat in the background and brilliant visuals to match, his poems had the children completely captivated. You must check out his work on YouTube; the children can’t stop talking about him!

We were also honoured to hear Trish Cooke read her inspiring book The Callalloo, a joyful celebration of female empowerment and the beauty of Afro hair; her vibrant storytelling sparked pride, confidence, and plenty of smiles across Year 2.

We also enjoyed a wonderful storytelling session from Sandra, one of the library’s own storytellers, who had us all gripped with her imaginative tale. And we were especially proud to be entertained by Miss Pryce, who had everyone on their feet singing along; a real highlight!

Back at school, we had the pleasure of meeting Kate Pankhurst, a distant relative of the famous suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst. She shared her new book We Are All Astronauts with us; each child received their own copy to take home! Kate also led a fantastic illustration workshop, and the children created some brilliant artwork; check out their creations!

It’s been a week full of stories, laughter, inspiration and imagination. Reading for pleasure has truly come to life for Year 2; we’re excited to see where our next reading adventure takes us!
