Over the past two weeks, our Reception children have been learning all about Sea Turtles. We’ve explored their life cycle, looked closely at their body parts and discovered some fascinating facts—did you know that sea turtles love to eat jellyfish?

Today, we had a very special visitor in class—Tee-Tee the Common Musk Turtle! Sara kindly brought Tee-Tee in from home, where she lives with another turtle. The children were so excited to meet a real turtle and see some of the features we’ve been learning about up close.

Before meeting Tee-Tee, we talked about what it means to protect animals. The children shared their ideas about how we could take care of Tee-Tee during her visit. They then worked together to think of questions to ask Sara, and took turns asking their questions while carefully observing Tee-Tee.

Everyone washed their hands thoroughly and had a chance to gently stroke her shell. Tee-Tee spent the whole day in our water area, so the children were able to observe her closely, stroke her again and even help to feed her!

What a fantastic way to bring our learning to life—we are so grateful to Sara for sharing her lovely turtle with us. It’s a day we won’t forget!
