This week, our Year 2 children began exploring William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream; a magical tale that inspired us to dive into some seasonal creativity of our own!

Building on the themes of midsummer, we turned our attention to the summer solstice and one of the UK’s most iconic landmarks associated with it: Stonehenge. The children created stunning artwork inspired by this ancient site, using their colour mixing and blending skills to paint vibrant sunset backgrounds. They then layered black sugar paper silhouettes to represent the famous standing stones, mimicking their striking shape and structure.

The children were not only proud of their finished pieces but also engaged thoughtfully with the history and science behind the solstice. They were fascinated to learn that the stones at Stonehenge are over 5,000 years old and could explain how and why the summer solstice occurs.

Let the midsummer magic begin—or perhaps just a little bit of midsummer mischief!
