This week we had a member from an equalities charity visit our class to provide facts about the global refugee crisis. He shared stories about people who had to leave their homes due to war, famine or to evade persecution. Through a variety of workshops and activities, we learned the difference between an immigrant, refugee and a person seeking asylum and after these sessions, we discussed what life was like for people seeking sanctuary in the UK.
In year six, we feel that dedicating time to learn about why refugees and immigrants settle in the U.K. will help them understand and celebrate multiculturalism and encourage them to build empathy for others who had to flee their homes in search for a safer way of life.
