In Year 5 we have been learning about materials and their properties. This week we were testing which material was the bet thermal insulator and which one would be the best for keeping an ice lolly cold and prevent it from melting. First we made our predictions based on which material was thickest, most breathable or would allow heat to enter. After we made our predictions we began our experiment! We wrapped 5 ice lollies in each material and left them for 30 minutes. After waiting, we measured how much liquid had melted using a syringe. We recorded our results on a table and then wrote our conclusions. The material which allowed the least amount of liquid to melt was tin foil – which most of us did not predict!
