The Year 2 children finished learning about significant scientists from the past with a lesson about Mae C. Jemison! As they and I know, Mae C. Jemison was an American engineer, physician, and ASTRONAUT! As part of this learning, we explored the concept of Gravity and how astronauts return to and land safely back on Earth.

Afterward, the children were challenged to plan and build an ‘egg parachute’ – that is, a parachute and landing contraction that would allow an egg to land safely on the ground without breaking. The children planned and then built their parachutes which were then tested on Friday afternoon.
