Reminders-

In Year 4 we have been learning about the Victorians. On Tuesday 18th October, we will have an activity day where we would like your child to wear Victorian school clothes. They may stay in school uniform if they do not have appropriate Victorian style clothing. No jeans or sports wear.

This week year 4 has been learning show not tell, where you describing the sentence without saying the emotion directly. For example:

Instead of this boring telling sentence: ‘Michael was terribly afraid of the dark.’

The showing sentence gives you a much more descriptive understanding of his fear: ‘As his mother switched off the light and left the room, Michael tensed. He huddled under the covers, gripped the sheets, and held his breath as the wind brushed past the curtain.’

We drew some photos of the image that the sentence ‘He was sad’ created in our head. Then when we heard a show sentence, we were able to visualise the feeling much better.

In DT, we have been creating Zoetropes. Last week we practiced making the animations. Now we have drawn them onto card and we have painted the zoetrope to decorate it. We cut out the slits in the zoetrope so that when we spin it, we will be able to view the image from there.

Finally, we used glue guns to apply hot glue to attach our animation cards to a plate which will act as the base for our Zoetrope. We glued on straws to spin the zoetrope with on the base of the plate.
