Y4’s Victorian Toy Shop

This week thought about atmosphere in art, relating to our study of ‘The Jabberwocky’ and it’s dramatic and dark mood. We created wax-resistance paintings using wax that created a layer over the paper that repelled the water-based paint. Painting over our wax designs revealed our beautiful, atmospheric pieces.

We learned about the differences between life for modern children and Victorian children who lived 200 years before us in our history lesson. We then had the opportunity to play with some real toys that the Victorian children would have played with, including doll dress-up kits, a wooden puppet theatre, yoyos and more.  This gave us an opportunity to empathise with children who lived lives without any tech or electricity, but who still had fun in so many other ways.
