Where does our food go?

This week in science we have been learning about the digestive system.  We followed the path of a banana through our body by recreating our digestive system. We used a pestle and mortar to mimic how our mouth breaks down food by chewing it and added water in place of saliva, to show how this helps us to swallow what we eat.  We then followed our food through an oesophagus to our stomach where enzymes and acids break down the food even more. Next, we traced the path our food takes through the intestines and out of our bodies once all of the water and nutrients have been absorbed.
