Using drama to improve our creative writing

This week, year six have been introduced to the novel: Goodnight Mr. Tom – a timeless classic. During the literacy hour, our students used freeze-frame strategies to slow down the key points of the story to help them comprehend and understand the significant moments shared by the book’s two main characters.

 

After the children created and discussed a variety of freeze frames, they were able to develop more ideas about Mr. Tom’s relationship with the evacuee he was obliged to look after during the Second World War.
