Year 6 welcomed TFL into the classroom for a workshop on travel safety. The children learnt about the benefits but also the risks of using the transport system in London.
Firstly, we looked at bus safety, for example, where to stand at bus stops and then how to be safe on a bus. We discussed who ‘safe people’, such as those in uniform that may help you in an emergency.
We then learnt about the need for safety on the Underground and the many dangers that exist on and around the trains. The class were very mature listening to stories of irresponsible behaviour that resulted in injuries to people who were not being safe.
Finally, the class looked at safety when cycling and walking around the streets of our busy city. There were a lot of important messages and the class listened carefully and sensibly to them.
