Practical Learning

What is the most effective way of learning? Well, in year six we believe it is when we can learn in a practical environment. Last Wednesday, the year six children were measuring the capacity of different jugs and pouring out water to simulate a word problem.  They were also given the opportunity to measure the length of tables and other objects in our school to learn how to calculate the area and perimeter of a series of shapes. I was most impressed with their ability to collaborate, explain and listen to each other when they were completing their work within a small group.
