This half term Year 2 has been learning about British Nurses who changed history. The first few weeks of the half term focussed on Florence Nightingale – whose museum we will be visiting at St Thomas’ hospital next week!
Our attention then turned to the exploits of Mary Seacole. An incredibly kind and brave woman who overcome adversity at every turn and demonstrated the power of herbal remedies when it came to cholera and other maladies.
Finally, we will learn about Edith Cavell – another incredibly brave British woman – who cared for soldiers from both sides during WW1.
I have always loved teaching this topic and the children have also enjoyed learning about the history of nursing, the impact these three women had and how the world has changed over time. They were incredibly excited to research and contribute to our class display. Pictures below!
