In our Brass Band lesson this week, we learnt how to care for and clean our musical instruments. We took apart our instruments, looking at the different parts of them. For the trumpets, euphoniums and baritones, we took out each of the valves, cleaning and oiling them. The mouthpieces were also cleaned as well as the outside of the instrument.
We learnt how to take apart the trombones including the outer and inner slides and cleaned them effectively.
This maintenance of our instruments is essential for ensuring the instrument sounds its best and stays in good condition. It was interesting to learn about the different parts of the instruments too. Learning to be musician is not just about playing the right notes – it also involves caring for and maintaining the good condition of one’s instrument!
